Hypatia (Ὑπατία, born between 355 and 370 according to sources and assassinated by Christians in 415) is a Neoplatonic philosopher, astronomer and Greek mathematician from Alexandria. A woman of letters and science, she is at the head of the Neoplatonic school of Alexandria, within which she teaches philosophy and astronomy. She is the first mathematician whose life is well documented.
